Rug cleaning can be expensive, but there’s no way around it to keep them looking good. But nowadays, many homeowners are opting for cleanings in eco-friendly ways, which costs less and is better for the environment.

    What does eco-friendly cleaning mean?

It can mean different things to different people, but generally speaking, it means using natural or non-toxic cleaning products and methods that don’t produce hazardous waste.

The standard products used for eco-friendly cleaning include:

    1. Detergents free of sodium lauryl sulfate
    2. A great oxygen-based cleaner that can be used on all surfaces and fabrics
    3. Baking soda
    4. Vinegar
    5. Olive oil
    6. Lemon juice
    7. Hydrogen peroxide
    8. Club soda
    9. Salt
    10. Rubbing alcohol

Many other eco-friendly products are on the market, and most households have probably already got a few of the basics lying around.

Here are some tips on how to get the best results without using harsh chemicals or steam cleaners that produce lots of water waste.

    • To Dry Or Not To Dry Clean

One of the best approaches to rug cleaning is the so-called dry clean, which doesn’t involve any liquid or steam cleaners. The trick is to use a professional machine similar to what’s used in dry cleaning clothes. It uses very low heat and leaves no moisture behind. And it can be used on all types of rugs.

    • Make A Solution

If you’re not comfortable with the dry clean approach or your rug is too large to fit in the machine, you can make a cleaning solution at home. Mix one part white vinegar with four parts water. Soak a cloth in the mixture, wring it out well, and then wipe the rug. If the vinegar smell is too strong, you can add a couple of drops of essential oil.

Regular soap and water do the job quite well, but if you need something stronger for adamant stains, make a solution with one-part ammonia to three parts water. Just be sure it doesn’t drip on the floor, as it can be slippery.

    • Spot Cleaning

If you don’t have time for a full-scale rug cleaning, or if the spot is small, you can use a spot cleaner. Choose one that’s eco-friendly and doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals. Apply it to a cloth and dab at the stain until it’s absorbed. Don’t rub, or you’ll just push it into the rug. Then let the spot dry and vacuum over it to pick up any residue.

    • Run Your Vacuum Regularly

One of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent rug stains is to run your vacuum cleaner regularly. Dirt gets trapped in carpets, especially between fibers, and can cause colors to fade and spots to appear. So vacuum at least once a week, and more often if you have pets or kids.

It is advisable to work with an eco-friendly company like rug cleaning Los Angeles, and they will help you maintain your rug without harsh chemicals. Nowadays, many homeowners are opting for eco-friendly ways to clean their rugs, which can save money and better the environment.

By following these tips, you can keep your rugs looking good for years without using any harsh chemicals or producing lots of wastewater. And you’ll be doing your part to help the environment too.
